| Last month, I went fly fishing with Pisgah Forest Fish Camp and caught two rainbow trout! The first trout I caught was at the Humble Hole. There was a fallen tree across the river and a hollow in the river where monster trout live, hence the name Humble Hole. The first fish I caught was on a fly that was tied to look like a chunk of meat! The trout was nearly too big to fit in the net and was about 16 inches. The fight is really different than with a bass, when you want to reel the bass in as fast as you can, with trout you tire it out, so you reel and when the trout pulls you let it run. The second trout I caught (about 10 inches) was at the Stillwater, on the far side of the river in a little hollow! Then I started using a dry fly and nearly caught a third, but tried to set the hook too early! All in all it was the best fishing trip ever! JJ |
