On Saturday I caught a two and a half foot long black racer, one of the most common snakes I catch in Florida. I found it when I was mowing the lawn. Earlier that day, dad called me outside and said he saw a black racer go in one of our many gardens, but I could not find it. I was on my way out to the back yard to look for the snake when my Dad yelled at me to mow the lawn. The entire time I was mowing the front lawn I was mad at my Dad for not letting me hunt for the snake. When I started mowing the back yard, I knew the snake was very close, so I looked very carefully for the black racer. Then I saw it, it was under a plastic storage bin. I charged toward it and it went under the bin. I threw the bin up and grabbed the snake while holding the bin up with my head. It bit me three times before I ran toward Dad yelling, “snake, snake, snake!” It was a beautiful snake. J J J |
